‘Magic painting’ – The name itself brightened our children’s faces and added magic in their eyes. This activity involved drawing a duck with various patterns using only a black wax crayon. They divided the page by drawing a line with the same crayon to differentiate the sky and land on which the duck stood. They coloured the duck with a thick layer of yellow colour using yellow wax crayon. Now it was time for the children to see the magic by using a very dilute water colour. They painted the land green and the sky blue from one end of the page to the other. They could notice that even though they painted over the duck, it had retained its yellow colour and did not get painted with green and blue watercolor. Teachers drew the children's attention to their crayon marks that resisted the paint. Children surely had fun exploring this new art form.
