International Youth Day, endorsed by the United nations in 1999, gives a platform to the voices of the Youth, to engage and initiate actions, that will increase the opportunities for them in the world.
At NPS Whitefield, the Teaching Fraternity and the Student Community collectively made the most of this window made available by conducting an Assembly, on August 11, 2021, wherein these Young Minds were harnessed to make a difference.
An enlightening Thought for the Day, by Irina Bokova, set the reflective tone for the Assembly, where she writes- “Young people are not only the Future…. but they are also our Present.” Insightful speeches brought to light the tragedy of many young people around the world battling the suffocating grip of poverty, disease and lack of resources. Progress, dreams and world changing abilities that are restricted for many young people around the world, was highlighted through the speeches of Malala & Greta Thunberg.
The students and the Facilitator Teacher engaged in an Intergenerational Discussion to contemplate on the various challenges as well as the hope that the Young represent for the Future.
The theme chosen by the United Nations for 2021 is, Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human & Planetary Health.
During these trying times of the Pandemic, Young people are on the Frontlines struggling to build a better future for all. This Covid-19 Tragedy has highlighted the dire need for the transformational change the world seeks- and none other than the Young people must be full partners in that effort, making the Vision for 2021, a reality and a work in progress.
We who have inherited the world from our ancestors, leave this legacy to our young people, and we want their lives to tell a different story, a Better story!
